When Design Matters!

When I’m talking with people at a party or just in casual conversation about interior design, I sometimes see a look on their face that says, ‘Oh really?’  I am very passionate about interior design and its importance and impact on our everyday lives and I think it shows!

For instance, is anyone watching the brand new season of Design Star?  I’m not, however a link from HGTV came across my email the other day to the photos of the contestants’ first project, which was to transform the Los Angeles home they’re living in while the show films.  So, I thought I would take a look…

It’s clear from this photo the impact that well-executed interior design can have on a space and the people that use it!

The contestants have a short, limited amount of time to radically transform the room, so for the amount of time they had, this team did well,  making a drastic and colorful difference.  Notice the difference in how you feel when you look at the Before and After photo.  Many people have a difficult time addressing high or tall ceilings in a home and often do nothing with their walls.  This is a cavernous room and vertical height in can be difficult to work with, particularly when working with color and scale.  If the two designers that transformed this room had used furniture that was on a smaller scale, the room would have felt ‘off’.

This is just an immediate example at my fingertips of the drastic and positive difference good design can make in a room. So my answer to people who wonder why I’m so passionate about interior design is because it does matter, always!
