Top Three Interior Design Trends for 2013

Last year was an incredibly good year for coastal home interior design here in Southern California, and this year promises to be just as exciting! We’ll see a few new trends appear on the scene and there are a few I’m particularly excited about! Really, there’s nothing an interior designer loves MORE than more options with which to design!

Graphic prints will be in almost every facet of home design and decor. I love using graphics in my design for coastal homes and small spaces because I enjoy a little of the unexpected and I really feel they bring a little something extra to a finished space.

{Trina Turk Turquoise and White “Trellis” Bed Linens }

{ Neiman Marcus “Parish” Bed Linens }

I love the simple elegance of this graphic in the bathroom…

{ Legacy Home “Linea Graphic” Diamond Shower Curtain }

I used these pillows recently in the re-design of the Mammoth Hospital chemotherapy treatment center in December and they’re just beautiful …

{ via All Modern }

{ Cavanaugh Design Group }

Like it, love it or hate it, brass is making a comeback. We’ll see variations on this metal and it’s color (think: gold tones) however for the most part, I think it will show up in small doses, in accent and console tables…

{ Neiman Marcus }

{ Style at Home, more graphic prints! }

Table top accessories …

{ Kelly Wearstler, love her! }

In table lamps …

{ Elle Decor, notice the graphic prints! }

And in furniture accents …

We’ll also see more Lucite used in ways we may not have thought possible. Lucite, and any clear material for that matter, is excellent for use in interior design for small or smaller spaces because it allows your eye to visually move through the piece of furniture. I absolutely LOVE these Lucite bar stools in this kitchen! I also love the capiz shell drum shades…

{ Interiorly }

These Lucite chairs blend perfectly and add a bit of an unexpected touch in this luxurious dining area…

{ Elle Decor }

And they fit perfectly in this contemporary office…

{ Decor Pad }

The practical side of me says this would be difficult to keep clean. The designer side of me says, very cool for a coastal home!

So how about you? Would you use any of these trends in your home this year and if so, which is your favorite?
