Mid Century Palm Springs Homes

It’s been a busy month here, and with the Independence Day holiday this past week, I finally decided to schedule a day or two of vacation in the desert, knowing it would be a relatively slow week.  Palm Springs is a short drive from the Los Angeles and Orange County areas and is one I love visiting, with it’s eclectic shops, great shopping, relaxed vibe and Uptown Design District.

I also decided to take a drive around some of the different established neighborhoods to see what people are doing with their homes and yes, I am that person you see taking pictures from the street!  Palm Springs is such an eclectic mix of old and new, mid-century and modern, traditional and Mediterranean and everything in-between.  The one thing the homes do have in common is that 98% of them are beautiful one-story homes, due to the intense heat, which sometimes reaches 125 degrees or more during the summer months.

In my experience, homes here in the desert go one of two ways, with either muted tones or pops of color, with orange being a common accent color on Palm Springs mid century homes. All of my pictures didn’t come out as bright and lovely as I would have liked, however, I’ll post a few here along with some others. And please excuse the spacing on this particular post…I have no idea what WordPress is doing!

Some Palm Springs homeowners incorporate neon and striking displays of iron art on their entry gates.

Glass and metal doors are also common in the desert.

And some get a little more colorful with their curb appeal!

All in all, a wonderful place to visit for the home and interior design enthusiast!
