Friday Interior Style Files

Hello! It’s truly amazing to me that another month has passed, we are right in the middle of Summer here in Southern California, and we are here again at another edition of the Interior Style Files.  It feels like I just sat down to write the last edition!  Interior Style Files is a regular feature here the last Friday of each month, which I began in order to share  interior – and sometimes exterior – furnishings and design that are excellent for coastal home interiors and luxurious living small spaces.

Palacek is known for their coastal feel and many of their pieces in their line are eco-friendly, like the Carlo lounge in our last Interior Style Files post. I think most people know and think of them for their furnishings line, however they have accent pieces that work well in coastal spaces, as well, such as these two lamps, which add a touch of the coast and are excellent for an entry or desktop.

Here’s a close up of the glass…it’s really quite beautiful in-person.

This Giravolta table is a perfect piece for a coastal or a small space for its style and versatility.  It can be used as an entry or console table, or opened up to a dining table, seating up to 6 people.  The wood top is beautiful and if you’re going for an eclectic coastal aesthetic, such as that which is popular here in coastal Laguna Beach, CA,  the chromed steel legs mix well with many other materials.

Form (style) and function go hand in hand in the world of interior design and nowhere is this more true than in the kitchen, where it is always helpful to be able to put your hands on what you need, when you need it, where you need it.  Eva’s Solo Knife Magnets mount to the wall, save counter space and are easy to grab when your hands are wet or covered in something.

In coastal spaces, sometimes we want to introduce actual coastal elements and sometimes we want to work to convey the coastal feeling with other elements, like color, light and texture. When the choice is to use the actual elements, my first pick is to use those that are still somewhat mysterious and that we don’t see in our everyday lives, like sea fans.  They are easily used, either framed or as a motif on an accessory like a pillow.

Here in Southern California, we are fortunate to be able to enjoy indoor/outdoor living 8 or 9 months out of the year, and in many instances we are doing the same things outdoors as we would do inside, like eating, napping and entertaining!   Of course, indoor/outdoor living calls for keeping our beverages cool and I think Frontgate has some of the best products on the market for doing so, like their Baroque glass beverage tub.

There are so many ways to enjoy the outdoors, like in this hanging bed from Dedon, that I couldn’t resist including it!  Couldn’t you see yourself enjoying an afternoon or even an evening under the stars, swaying in the breeze?

That’s it for this Friday…here’s hoping you have something fun planned for this weekend and wishing you a wonderful few days!
