Interior Design for a Summer Home

Summer is just around the corner and many of us will be looking for a way to pass the hot Summer days.  So, I will be posting over the next few weeks about several ways you can get your home in the swing of things, just in time to enjoy the warm temperatures and cool afternoon breezes.

Window seats offer a great opportunity to catch a breeze, take a nap, read or just reconnect with the outdoors.  Here are a few of my personal favorites….

Who wouldn’t love an elegant window seat with an equally elegant ocean view?!

This equally elegant Manhattan apartment has a seat that’s perfect for enjoying the view or a quiet moment with a beverage and a book.

Interior design is all about making the most of space.  A window seat that doubles as a day bed is a huge space-saver and an elegant, interesting way to create more usable space in your home.  This one large enough for two people to enjoy a Summer afternoon.

Outdoor space in any city is precious and difficult to come by.  This New York terrace has the added bonus of a window seat to make the most of their soon-to-be view…there’s so much possibility in this space!

Window seats are often used in kitchens or eating areas and double as a great gathering place for dinner parties or extra table seating.  I love the use of traditional elements here, mixed with more modern colors and touches, like the light fixture and contemporary chair backs.

I always like feedback on whether homeowners use their fun, cool spaces like these!  How about you – do you have a window seat and do you use it?
